This is the first study to address the long term prospects for Verreaux’s Eagles in light of land transformation in and around the Cederberg Mountains. The ultimate objective of the research is to furnish the data necessary to demonstrate the importance of a stable habitat and prey base for this apex predator.
Megan Murgatroyd is a Zoology PhD student in the Animal Demography Unit at the University of Cape Town. In 2011 Megan established The Black Eagle Project which aims to assess the effects of land use, in particular agriculture, on the diet and hunting habits of the Black (or Verreaux’s) eagle Aquila verreauxii.
